Company Director Advice
Information
about the company director.
A limited company must have at least one director. This person
must be different to the company secretary. However, where two
directors are appointed one of the directors may also be the company
secretary.
Generally it is up to the members to appoint the people who run
the company.
Who can be a director?
There are very few restrictions on who can be a director of a
UK limited company. However the members cannot appoint:
a person who has been disqualified by a court from acting as a
company director (unless he or she has been given leave (permission)
to act by a court for a particular company)
a person who is an undischarged bankrupt (except with leave of
the court);
anybody under the age of 16 in Scotland
anybody over the age of 70 for a PLC or their subsidiaries, unless
specifically approved by a general meeting of the company or relevant
resolution.
